About Intersecting Minds: A NeuroHumanities & Consciousness Collective

Logo for Intersecting Minds: a series of overlapping circles converging at a black circle with a red dot at the center, intersected by a vertical and horizontal line.

Our mission at Intersecting Minds is to create an inclusive community for everyone interested in learning and thinking about the NeuroHumanities, an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of Neurosciences and Humanities. We provide a collaborative platform for interdisciplinary scholars, students, and community members to explore NeuroHumanities and Consciousness Studies. We came together as an affinity group of the Health Humanities Consortium, driven by a shared excitement for the myriad connections—explored and unexplored—we were seeing between the humanities and neurosciences, and so formed our IM NeuroHumanities Collective. Through our work, we aim to share educational resources and foster accessible, public-facing dialogues across sectors within these fields. Our ultimate goals are to build community among humanists and neuroscientists and inspire meaningful conversations and scholarship that advance the study of NeuroHumanities.

IM NeuroHumanities & Consciousness Collective Community Values

A poster on a black and white background with the site logo listing the community values: Community Values of acting non-hierarchically, acting with trust and building community, assuming best intentions, and acknowledging that learning is not a linear process.

1. Function horizontally: We are a group committed to hearing and respecting everyone’s views. We are invested in acting non-hierarchically.
Act with Trust: This is an intentional space to build community, facilitate collaborations, and foster learning.
Assume best intentions: We assume best intentions when uncomfortable situations arise. Sometimes, folks say things that might be offensive, hurtful, or off-putting when brainstorming or conversing. To engage in a meaningful dialogue, we assume best intentions to inform and educate as needed.
Acknowledge that learning is not linear:Learning is often recursive, repetitive, and can sometimes be surprising. This community is intended to offer educational opportunities while also reflecting on and acting upon measures to improve itself.
